RISE N’ SHINE CELEBRATES ITS 25TH ANNIVERSARY

Here at 206, we’re very fortunate to have the resources, time and talent to help the community with what we do best. Last night, local non-profit, Rise n’ Shine, celebrated its 25th year of supporting and advocating for children affected by HIV/AIDS, and unveiled their new name Inspire Youth Project and brand designed by 206. The program included a presentation of the organization’s history, with a special shout out to Mark Dyce, former Rise n’ Shine board president, hip hop performances by Kontagious Movement and a surprise donation of $25,000 presented by the Detlef Schrempf Foundation. This project began back in October and we’re thrilled to see it come to life.

It’s official, Seattle’s 4th of July Fireworks show is on! Amazing local sponsors such as Amazon.com, Microsoft and DoubleDown Interactive have stepped up to become part of a new, long-term and sustainable funding plan to ensure the 4th of July fireworks show remains an iconic community event for years to come.   Other sponsors include Starbucks, Wells Fargo and Tom Douglas restaurants. To bolster the show’s sustainability, Seafair will now be the producer of the event which will be incorporated into the festival’s summer programming for the long term. Last week marked the beginning of an exciting partnership between Laird Norton Wealth Management and King County Parks to celebrate the Parks’ 75th anniversary. During a press conference on Tuesday Laird Norton Wealth Management and the Parks announced the establishment of the King County Parks Foundation, dedicated to supporting the growth of King County Parks for generations to come. Laird Norton Wealth Management also announced a donation of $75,000 to jumpstart the fund. The announcement has garnered solid media coverage (as did the amazing cake!) with three articles in Puget Sound Business Journal and several news segments on KOMO-TV and radio and KIRO-TV. At the conference attendees had a chance to hear presentations that focused on the role engagement and “quality” content play in today’s consumer online experience while networking and chowing-down at a couple of Seattle’s finest food trucks, Marination and Skillet. Kudos to everyone who was involved in helping make this day a huge success.

HELP CASPAR BABYPANTS WRITE A CROWD SOURCED SONG

First there were millions of peaches, lumps and kitties. Now there are googly eyes, butterflies driving trucks and stomping bears. Chris Ballew of the Presidents of the United States of America, known by most five-year-olds as Caspar Babypants has invited Seattle to partake in a social, music experiment (Video invite here) – a crowd sourced song that Chris will debut at in-nw 2013.  All you need to do is finish the phrase “When I was little…” with a memory from your childhood. Then tweet it using #innwsong or post it to facebook.com/innorthwest in 25 words or less. Join Chris either in-person or virtually on Wednesday, February 13 at the in-nw 2013 Social Media Conference to hear the new song—and maybe the next big evolution in Seattle music.

Amazon Kindle Holiday Experience
Did Santa bring you an Amazon Kindle this holiday season? He might have picked it up at one of the Amazon Kindle Holiday Experiences that took place this past holiday season. Rise n’ Shine is a nonprofit organization that provides emotional support programs, stability and advocacy for kids affected by HIV/AIDS. Our 206 team stepped up to ensure the children in our adopted family will have presents under their tree on Christmas morning. Through the generosity of our staff we were able to get some amazing gifts for these kids including board games, slippers, jeans, shoes, a winter jacket, and even a guitar.
